Here’s our list of 17 not to be missed movies to see starting next month and through the end to 2017. Each day we will bring you the next on the list. These are in chronological order of release date, not any specific ranking of hype or expectations. We leave that up to the reader!
Let’s get started . . .
Note: All release dates are subject to change.
Ever since the comic genre (re)invaded our cinemas with the original X-Men back in 2000, people have been asking “What about Wonder Woman?” Wonder no longer. We received our first hint of Diana, the Amazonian princess, in Batman v Superman. In it she mysteriously shows up to help Batman and Superman fight the creature created from General Zod‘s DNA. In Wonder Woman we get to see her proper origin story. This isn’t the Wonder Woman from the mid-70’s television show, with it’s cheesy costumes and story lines (but my wife loves it to this day). Wonder Woman takes place during the violence of The Great War (World War I), and Diana feels obligated to step in to help humanity.
But here’s a short synopsis:
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers . . . and her true destiny. Patty Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.
The Hype: Wonder Woman is the first kickass female superhero feature to come to the silver screen (sorry, Catwoman does . . . NOT . . . count), and Diana appears to do just that in the trailers, kick ass. This will have massive demographic appeal.
The Caution: Are people becoming jaded with comic/superhero movies? I’ll be honest. From my perspective, certainly, but the mileage of other fans will likely vary. But I’ve heard rumblings of it permeating social networks on the internet. Wonder Woman falls outside the normal Marvel safe zone of Iron Man, Avengers, and Thor that fans are used to.
