Leonard Nimoy, 1931-2015

Today we lost Leonard Nimoy at the age of 83.

Nimoy was best know for playing the enigmatic Spock in the legendary Star Trek franchise.  Most recently he reprised his roll for Star Trek Into Darkness.  But many fans don’t realize that he was involved in almost all forms of entertainment:  film, television, directing, books, video games, photography, poetry, and music.  He was a true renaissance man that could never break out of the mold he created with Spock.  Early in his career he seemed to reject the character with the publication of I Am Not Spock where he tried to separate the man from the myth.  Then later in his career he finally came to terms with the legend he’d helped create and penned I Am Spock.

Nimoy had been ill for months, suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), possibly related to smoking in the early half of his life.  On February 19th Nimoy was rushed to UCLA Medical Center after calling 911 and complaining of chest pains.

A life long and prosperous.  Rest in peace Mr. Nimoy.
