I love geek shirts. But I don’t like blatantly geeky shirts. Subtlety is where it’s at, and nowhere else can you find subtle geek designs than Last Exit to Nowhere.
The designers at Last Exit to Nowhere take popular movies (mainly science fiction and action) and turn them in to quasi-legit looking corporate t-shirts, complete with logos and slogans. Some of them are obvious to those with geek cred, some are more obscure.
For example, let’s take a look at this offering. Most people would look at it and think it’s just a shirt about science or Antarctica or some obscure research station. Which it is. But the catch is that it’s the Antarctic research outpost from John Carpenter’s The Thing remake from 1982.
Or how about something a bit more academic. This Hill Valley High School shirt is from Back to the Future. But most people would never know.
But some people get it. I walked in to a fast food restaurant wearing a Weyland-Yutani: Building Better Worlds t-shirt resplendent with colorful company logo and slogan. The worker behind the counter took one look at my shirt, then looked at me and said with a straight face “I hope an alien doesn’t burst out of your chest.”
One thing to keep in mind…Last Exit to Nowhere is located in England, so the prices can be a little steep (but the shirt quality is excellent). Only order if they are having a sale, and order a lot to save on shipping.
