In my opinion Guardians of the Galaxy is the best comic based IP currently being put to film.  Yes, I said it.  Better than Batman, better than Iron Man, better than The Avengers, etc. It encapsulates everything people love about comics: it’s quirky, colorful, with misfit characters, humor, action, and morally grey heroes (okay, lots of comics have that last element).  Regardless, Guardians of the Galaxy is great fun, and I’ve heard some people referring to it as “the new Star Wars.”  Let’s not get carried away people . . .

Very little is known about the story, but it’s sure to include a lot of humor, sticky situations, morally ambiguous sidekicks, and a groovy 1970s chill soundtrack.

Unlike most Marvel Studios sequels, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 won’t use real time to mark the amount of time that has passed since the last movie, and instead will start approximately two months after the end of the 2014 hit. And while we don’t know much about the plot, other than the fact that it will see Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) reunited with his father (more on that later), we do know that James Gunn’s script will hit on important subjects regarding family, where you come from, past experiences, and how all of those form the person you eventually become.

The Hype: A right and proper mix of science fiction, space opera, and comic book storytelling!  Groooooot.

The Caution:  Nothing.  This will be a monster hit with fans and box office.
