What I’m working on, when I expect to be done, or just random ramblings.

The end is nigh.

Oh, not in a doom and gloom sort of end, but the end of a journey!

My plan was to have the book, now titled Glimmer Trace, available this fall. You know, I never knew how hard it would be to pick a name for a book, but this one sort of naturally fell out as the front runner.

Anyway … fall is quickly approaching. Editing timing might not line up for this to happen, but it’s possible it might be ready by the end of the year … and by spring without a doubt. I know, I sound like a broken record, but life sometimes conspires against you.

Here’s the current status:

  • 155,000 words … too long for my liking!
  • 2nd round of editing in process
  • Trim it down to ~120,000 words (550+/- pages depending on trim)
  • Book cover proof complete (see below)
  • Interior layout design is 95% complete

What’s left to do:

  • Finish another round of edits
  • Finalize book cover
  • Get book proof samples
  • Final tweaks

Plan is for there to be a print version (obviously), and ebook, and perhaps an audio book (maybe, eventually….?).

I look forward to getting this off my plate so I can start the next part of the story, either a bridging novella (set in 2598) or the next part of the main story (set in 2599).

Cheers!

Worldbuilding.

The kernel of the world of the Triocracy began as far back as September 2002 according to my notes. Some of those notes were scribbled as random notebook entries during mind-numbing meetings while working for a precursor to this setting’s “panglomerates” . . . which had a huge influence on many of the themes. The nuggets for the story of this first book took form in 2012, as even more random scribbling in another notebook, which in turn was influenced by an early Shakespeare inspired story which will hopefully see book form after this first one.

Point being, I’ve been melding, morphing, massaging, and generally noodling on this world (and stories in it) for over twenty years, with notes and outlines filling a couple hundred pages of hand written notebooks, and probably another couple hundred pages of Word docs. It’s a bit overwhelming to be honest, keeping it all organized and coherent. But a little entropy in science fiction is okay, right? I think so.

Below is a picture showing some of the notebooks (and editing). If you zoom in you can see those notebook entries where done in 2012-2013.

As I mentioned above, the setting of the Sphere of the Triocracy is heavily influenced by my profession in the tech industry. The structure, the technology, and by hyperbolic extrapolation what that might look like in the future. You can see the germination of it today. The line between government and corporations is blurring. Some corporations are more wealthy than many nations on this planet. Some corporations are beginning to become radicalized and politicized (Palantir, etc, publishing “manifestos” and advocating for AI controlled weapons systems). Private space companies (SpaceX, soon to become a public company) are merging with, or buying, AI companies. The government (U.S.) is buying stakes in certain businesses. Computing power is becoming a commodity, much like oil or any other natural resource. Except this resource is controlled by few and able to be manufactured by even fewer.

It’s almost like science fiction is a self fulfilling prophesy, a case not where scifi predicts the future, but where it influences the future. It’s as if some of these CEOs and politicians grew up reading and watching movies about futuristic supervillains and dystopian timelines, and thought “Yeah . . .that’s the future I want to work towards.” Palantir makes no secret about it . . . it’s right in their name!

But, I digress.

This first book may read like a straight up adventure book, but as I mentioned earlier, it’s a hyperbolic view of where our world might be headed. Maybe not to the state of the story, but certainly something terrifyingly resembling it.

So, to quote the character Atacis:

“Control three-pronged equation.
Deception: cannot see cage.
Distraction: do not mind cage.
Labor: too weary to leave cage.
Rulers and ruled. Eternal cycle. Spire perfected equation.”

Over the years I’ve realized I extract just as much creative enjoyment out of building a logical setting as I do pushing pieces around in that setting. This might stem back to my ancient Dungeons & Dragons days, decades ago, when I almost exclusively was the Dungeon Master in our circle of gaming geeks. Creating worlds always took precedence over playing in them . . . at least for me.

So my hope is that I’ve built an interesting and creative scifi world for me to push my own pieces around, allowing them, and you, to explore its corners and live the adventures that unfold.

And, a minor update. After some major, MAJOR, distractions last year, this first book will be available this fall.

Thanks!

A short update.

A lot has happened in the past six months… some good, some bad. My attention was, unfortunately, pulled elsewhere and the creative process suffered. Void the Light (working title, of course) is still happening. It’s100% outlined and 80% written, so it’ll cross the finish line at some point. And for those who’ve expressed interest in it, I only ask that you be patient.

On a side note, I did receive an ARC of The Immeasurable Heaven from Caspar Geon (pen name, the author’s real name is Tom Toner), and quite enjoyed it. If you enjoy science fiction that is wildly creative, a bit weird, and organic, you might appreciate this offering. I’ve always been fond of his Amaranthine Spectrum trilogy, but it didn’t seem to catch on with many readers, despite receiving generally positive reviews. I believe “The Immeasurable Heaven” will be out next month (July 2025).

I shall close by leaving you a video I recently finished…Shadow.Node. It’s a cyberpunk story/soundtrack that takes place in the Infinispace/Triocracy setting. This format of storytelling may not be everyone’s cup-o-tea, but I enjoyed creating it.

In Realspace, Nira enters the Dream Theater attempting to regain memory fragments lost in the sprawling depths of Infinispace, where identity is fluid and memory can be rewritten. Armed with a rebuilt bio.node and an outlawed avatar, she navigates the twisted alleys of Mobius City and its shadowy underlayers, chasing whispers, lost connections, and a truth buried beneath layers of deception. As digital and emotional realities blur, her journey becomes a fight not just for survival, but for meaning, purpose, and a way back to something real. But at what cost?

“Shadow.Node” is part short story and part soundtrack that can be watched, listened…or both.

Cheers!

Some time ago, I decided to remove all the world-building content from this site, fully intending to leave it as a placeholder for years. However, while visiting my mother-in-law’s cabin in the Idaho mountains, I had a profound realization: I possess hundreds of pages of world-building, stories, and partially completed books and novellas. It wasn’t so much a newfound understanding—I was aware of it all along—but a clear moment that made me recognize it was time to bring one of those stories to life.

I’m already nearly 300 pages into the first draft, and I anticipate it will reach around 600 pages (approximately 120,000 words). My goal is to trim it down to a concise 400-500 pages, as I’m not a fan of the current publishing trend that suggests longer works inherently enhance the reading experience.

I aim to complete Void the Light (working title) in the first half of 2025. If all goes well with this project, I will dive into a follow-up that takes place around 20 years later. Join me on this journey as I bring these stories to light!

So, in that light, here’s a new website focused on the first book that takes place in the Triocracy.

Cheers!
