A.I. Artificial Intelligence: A Visual Study

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the movie A.I. Artificial Intelligence, but it seems that there’s been a resergence of interest in the movie lately.  Various film websites have started revisiting the movie and looking at it with a new eye.

David from A.I. Artificial IntelligenceThe video above, A.I. Artificial Intelligence:  A Visual Study, is an analysis of the visual themes prevalent withing the film . . . themes of humanity versus artificial humanity and all the duality, frailties, and flaws they may share.  It’s an interesting analysis of a movie that seems to be gaining more and more respect with viewers and critics alike.  I think initial reaction was mixed because some fan were expecting a Kubrick film, while others were expecting a Spielberg film.  The dichotomy that exists within the themes of A.I. Artificial Intelligence is that the sweet and heart wrenchingly emotional elements are from Kubrick, while the dark and violent elements are from Spielberg.  Many viewers associate the former with Spielberg and claim he ruined a perfectly good Kubrick film with all of his emotional nonsense, when in fact that was Kubrick all along!  Fans let their preconceived notion of what Kubrick produces cloud their judgement of the film, and now people a finally waking up to the fact that while it may not be a masterpiece, it’s certainly a very solid and thought provoking science fiction film.
