Weekend Box Office: May 8-10, 2015

Another weekend, another $77 million.  Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in China on Tuesday and should shatter the $1 billion mark later this week.  Ultron broke the $300 million threshold in ten days, tying The Dark Knight‘s pace to that mark.  The Avengers, which holds the title as the fastest to clear $300 million, did it in nine days.

Mad Max: Fury Road opens next week and may give Ultron a run for its money, but it has a violent R rating attached to it, so that will slow down it’s box office draw.

But what may be more amazing is that Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is closing in on $100 million.  Unreal.  The new comedy Hot Pursuit had a respectable opening in the face of incredible competition.

The Age of Adaline and Ex Machina are holding pretty steady and have been since release.
