The Art of Michael Whelan

Michael Whelan was born in 1950 and has spent more than 30 years illustrating in the science fiction and fantasy genres.  His works have appeared predominantly on book and magazine covers that number over 350.  Mr. Whelan has accumulated an impressive list of awards over his career, including no less than 15 Hugo Awards.

His breakout as an artist happened when Anne McCaffrey’s best selling The White Dragon hit shelves in 1978.  I remember that cover very well.  In 2009 Michael Whelan was inducted in to the Science Fiction Hall of Fame, the first artist to receive such an honor.
