The Art of Alex ‘Gutalin’ Kozhanov

Alex ‘Gutalin’ Kozhanov is a freelance artist living in Kalinigrad, Russia.  He specializes in matte painting that utilizes a level of fine detail that is far greater than most of his contemporaries.  His style is also heavily influenced by H.R. Giger as can be seen in the biomechanical and industrial look and atmosphere embodied in his work shown below.  The biomechanical style was originally created by Giger and became the primary drive behind the design of the xenomorph in the movie Alien.

He recently had the opportunity to produce some atmospheric concept art for the movie Prometheus.

Alex also goes by the moniker of ‘Gutalin.’  Gutalin is a character in the classis Russian science fiction novel Roadside Picnic.  Gutalin is a ‘stalker’ who enters alien contaminated zones on Earth to seek out dangerous alien artifacts.
