Courtesy of IGN comes a video showing the first 15 minutes of gameplay (not cinematics) from Projekt Red‘s new open world adventure game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
One thing is for certain, the game looks absolutely gorgeous as you play the role of Geralt of Rivia, a “witcher” (a magically and genetically mutated monster slayer for hire), who sets out to confront an otherwordly army known as the Wild Hunt. Even though this is the coda for Geralt’s story, the developer says that The Witcher 3 can be played as a standalone without having to know the backstory of the previous two games (2007’s The Witcher, and 2009’s The Witcher 2).
The developer has already announced two expansions for The Witcher 3:
- Hearts of Stone – A 10+ hour long adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the alleys of Oxenfurt.
- Blood and Wine – A 20+ hour long adventure in a new region known as Toussaint.
The first expansion will be available in October of 2015, while the second is slated for release in Q1 of 2016. In the meantime, The Witcher 3 will be released May 19, 2015 and is estimated to contain 200 hours of content if you “do everything.”
The Witcher games are based on the works of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher Saga is comprised of six novels and a handful of short stories.
