Sci-Fi Scenes: Monsters from the Id, Forbidden Planet, 1956

Forbidden Planet is one of my all time favorite classic science fiction films.  It borrows heavily from Shakespeare’s The Tempest to weave a tale of a scientist and his young daughter who are the sole survivors of a lost expedition on the planet Altair IV.  How did Morbius survive?  With the help of the extinct and enigmatic Krell of course, and their planet wide computer that he uses the boost his intelligence to superhuman levels.

By artificially boosting their intelligence the Krell caused their own extinction by manifesting monsters from the id.  In this classic scene, the most paramount in the entire movie as it causes Morbius to realize the folly of his pride, Morbius manifests a nightmare from his id and it attacks the starship C-57D (a very sterile name for a starship).

Yes, I realize the scene looks pretty cheesy today.  But keep in mind it is 60 years old.  The effects in Forbidden Planet were way ahead of their time.  For these reasons it qualifies as an Infinspace Sci-Fi Scene!

What is a Sci-Fi Scene? These scenes are memorable because they touch the soul, show amazing visions of the future, or broke ground in film technology. All these scenes are so great that they are in no particular order, just the order that they come to me. Enjoy!
