Trailer for ‘Sleepy Hollow’ Series

The first thing you may be asking yourself is:  Who asked for a television series about Sleepy Hollow?  Furthermore, after watching the trailer below, you may ask yourself:  Why did FOX turn Sleepy Hollow in to yet another police procedural, albeit with urban fantasy undertones?  I’ll tell you why.  Because police procedurals are cheap to produce and urban fantasy is hot.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Ichabod Crane wakes up from the throes of death 250 years in the future to find the world on the brink of destruction and learn he is humanity’s only hope.

From co-creators/executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (the “Star Trek” and “Transformers” franchises, “Fringe”) comes the adventure thriller SLEEPY HOLLOW. In this modern-day retelling of Washington Irving’s classic, ICHABOD CRANE (Tom Mison, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”) is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to find that the world is on the brink of destruction and that he is humanity’s last hope, forcing him to team up with a contemporary police officer (Nicole Beharie, “Shame,” “American Violet”) to unravel a mystery that dates back to the founding fathers.

So what we’ve got here is another show that mashes up a person out of time, with a cop show, with an underlying threat driving it all, and probably filmed in Vancouver B.C. using the same backdrops as a host of other similar shows.  Also, you cast Clancy Brown (Highlander, Starship Troopers), then kill him in the pilot, then show us in the trailer.  What!?

Do networks really think content like this is sustainable?

Regardless, every show falls in someone’s wheelhouse, so…Enjoy!
